Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy

Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy (KAP) is a novel therapeutic method that may support mental health conditions, including depression, PTSD, and anxiety. It involves the use of the psychoactive substance ketamine in conjunction with psychotherapy to enhance and deepen the therapeutic process. While the biochemical effects of ketamine on its own can provide symptom relief, we have found that combining it with psychotherapy and other integrative treatments tends to amplify and prolong ketamine's effects. At Tethered Healing, we offer KAP as part of our comprehensive and holistic approach to wellness, especially when paired with complementary therapies—such as Somatic Experiencing, therapeutic touch, art therapy, and nature walks —to help integrate the insights from KAP, regulate the nervous system, and extend its therapeutic benefits.

Our Approach

KAP may be of benefit for those seeking deep healing, struggle with deep-seated patterns that feel stuck, or who have struggled to respond to traditional talk therapies. The combination of the therapeutic use of ketamine with psychotherapy can help individuals access and process difficult emotions, memories, and patterns with greater openness and ease.

We approach KAP work with the utmost reverence. We prioritize relational safety, thorough preparation, embodiment, and integration. We emphasize a holistic, trauma-informed somatic approach ensuring that each journey is held with care and attunement. At Tethered Healing, we prioritize a personalized medicine approach and each session is intentionally co-created between you and your provider.

Complementary modalities such as relational depth work, parts work, Somatic Experiencing, transpersonal psychology, and art therapy, are all a part of your prep, dose, and integration sessions.

Our approach goes beyond symptom relief by focusing on unearthing the root of the problem. We will explore how trauma, ancestral and intergenerational wounds, and systemic oppression have all impacted mental and physical health. Our work thus supports not only personal healing, but also collective liberation through fostering deeper resilience, connection, self-understanding, and personal responsibility.

For those interested, as part of our KAP work, we will explore what ancestral rituals, myths and stories, ceremonies, prayers, and allies you have. Often, even for those who think they have no connection or information about the generations before, we find that a connection is, as ancestral healing author Stephanie Foo says, in the bone marrow and always findable.

The Flow of KAP at Tethered Healing:

While each KAP treatment is highly individualized and based on your unique circumstances and needs, the start of a KAP regimen typically unfolds like this:

  • Psychological Intake (60 mins)

  • Medical Intake with prescriber (30-45 mins)

  • 6-8 Preparatory Sessions (50 mins)

  • KAP Session (3 hours)

  • 2 Integration Sessions (50 mins)

  • KAP Session (3 hours)

  • 2 Integration Sessions (50 mins)

  • KAP Session (3 hours)

  • 2-4 Integration Sessions (50 mins)

We recommend a commitment to at least 3-6 ketamine sessions, as this medicine tends to have a cumulative effect and is most beneficial after multiple treatments.
