Somatic Psychotherapy
“The Body Keeps the Score”
Trauma and stress are physiological events that have emotional, cognitive, relational, and spiritual consequences. The body remembers even when the mind doesn’t and even before we have verbal capacities. Somatic approaches take a bottom-up rather than a top-down approach to healing. From a somatic perspective, if we work with and heal what the body is storing, cognition and emotions will change. If you’ve exhausted traditional talk therapy, somatic therapy may be for you.
Tethered Healing Approach to Somatic Psychotherapy
In general, we provide somatic psychotherapy that integrates mindfulness-based, body-oriented approaches with a relational, depth-oriented framework, recognizing that healing happens both in the body and in the context of relationships. This approach acknowledges that many psychological struggles stem from relational wounds—such as unmet needs, attachment disruptions, or experiences of neglect, betrayal, or invalidation.
By slowly working with bodily sensations, emotions, and relational dynamics, somatic psychotherapy helps you develop greater awareness of your internal experience, cultivate safety and self-trust, and shift patterns that no longer serve you. This work supports you in showing up more authentically in your life and relationships.
Somatic Psychotherapy Can Help You:
Deepen body awareness and recognize how stress and trauma show up in your system.
Explore relational patterns, uncover underlying dynamics, and build more authentic, fulfilling connections.
Develop mindful, embodied tools to help you navigate triggers and respond to life with greater flexibility.
Work dynamically with relational themes as they surface in therapy, deepening self-understanding and emotional regulation.
Process & renegotiate traumatic experiences and have corrective relational and touch experiences.
Somatic Experiencing®
Somatic Experiencing® (SE™) is a trauma-focused therapy. SE works directly with your body's innate ability to restore balance and heal. This gentle, body-based approach helps regulate the nervous system and recover from overwhelming experiences by tracking subtle bodily sensations, releasing stored survival energy, and restoring a sense of safety, ease, and connection.
By working at a pace that honors your system’s natural rhythms, SE™ supports long-term well-being while helping reduce symptoms of PTSD, complex trauma, anxiety, chronic stress, depression, and pain. Whether you're navigating the impact of trauma or experiencing a sense of disconnection from your body, SE™ offers a path toward greater ease, presence, and vitality. SE includes therapeutic touch work, which can be profoundly healing for those with interpersonal trauma and developmental trauma.
Somatic Experiencing Can Help You:
Develop the skills to navigate triggers and overwhelming experiences with more stability and choice.
Learn to identify, communicate, and honor your wants, needs, preferences, and boundaries.
Explore habitual and conditioned patterns of relating, reacting, numbing, and avoiding—so you can shift away from survival-based responses and move toward greater regulation and choice.
Integrate and process past experiences without becoming overwhelmed. Specifically, SE is used as a trauma processing treatment similar to Prolonged Exposure and EMDR.
Cultivate a deeper connection with your body’s signals to foster self-trust.
Strengthen your ability to experience pleasure, joy, and connection by expanding your window of tolerance.
