Cancellation Policies.

Appointments are scheduled on a weekly basis at a time specifically held for you.

A minimum of 24 hours notice is required for canceling an appointment, otherwise you will be charged the full fee for the session. Be mindful of the cancellation policy, and note that in the event of a late cancellation or no show, you will be charged for the full cost of the visit. This policy is to encourage those that schedule to make it to their appointments, as late cancellations and no-shows limit other patients access to visits.

Insurance.

In order to offer comprehensive treatment tailored to each person, we do not accept insurance or work directly with insurance companies.

If you have an HMO, Medicare, or Medi-Cal, you will not be able to use your insurance for services. However, if you have a PPO insurance plan with out-of-network benefits, you may be able to receive reimbursement for all or a portion of the therapy fee. If you wish to seek out-of-network reimbursement from your insurance company, we can provide you with a monthly statement ( or “superbill”) that you can submit to your insurer for partial reimbursement. Please note that although the superbill lists diagnoses and procedural codes for the purpose of insurance reimbursement, there is not a guarantee that your plan will reimburse. It is recommended you first contact your insurance company to discuss their reimbursement policy for individual therapy for out-of-network providers. You will want to know the amount of your deductible, what percentage of behavioral health services they will reimburse you, and the number of visits per calendar year. We have opted-out of Medicare and therefore, Medicare patients will need to create a private contract with me to receive services and the patient will be responsible for submitting the contract to Medicare.

Each clinician at Tethered Healing does offer one regular low-fee slot for active duty and veterans. If interested, please email to inquire about current availability.

  • At this time, Tethered Healing offers individual therapy for adults ages 18 and older. We do not offer couples, family, or group treatment.

  • To initiate therapy, please call (619) 273-0129) for a brief phone interview to discuss your care needs and how we might offer support. Please leave a voicemail if we do not answer. We do not receive missed phone calls without a voicemail so we will not know that you have reached out. We will briefly discuss what brings you to therapy and what you’re looking for as well as discussing scheduling and payment. If you do not reach us, please leave a message and your call will be returned as soon as possible during business hours.

If we mutually determine suitability, you will then be scheduled for an initial session to discuss presenting concerns and goals for therapy. Our initial session provides the chance for me to get a more detailed sense of what kind of support you are needing, what goals you have for therapy, and do a cursory mental health assessment. We will also ask you questions about yourself, therapeutic and medical history, as well as a little about your family and relationship history. This information will help us get a more holistic understanding on how to tailor therapy to fit your needs, goals, and personality. The intake session is also a chance for you to ask us any questions you might have and for us to discuss treatment options. If we find we are a good fit, we would schedule a consistent time in which to meet every week.

Throughout the course of treatment, all decisions are made collaboratively. Treatment will always be individually tailored to your unique needs and goals using a holistic framework incorporating evidence-based ingredients and mind-body and culturally informed approaches.

  • If you feel safe and comfortable to be yourself with us. If you find our explorations to be insightful or transformative, and can sense that we can empathize with what you are going through. A good sign that our work together is successful is if you are experiencing some insight, relief, and/or changes in your world.

  • A number of factors determine how long therapy will last. We offer both short and long-term treatment options, tailored to each individual. The ultimate purpose of therapy is to help you achieve your unique treatment goals and provide relief as efficiently as possible. Healing evolves over time as well, and what we initially focus on may change and eventually flow or transform into other areas.

For those seeking a time-limited course of evidence-based PTSD treatment, these approaches are effective despite their short length (often averaging 12-15 sessions). The reason for this is the commitment you make to the therapy. The harder you work on practicing the skills outside of the sessions and the more regularly you attend appointments (weekly therapy is recommended for best results), the faster you are expected to progress through treatment. Change is measured over time and reviewed with you throughout the course of treatment to provide an understanding of how much more therapy may be warranted to get you to your goals. Importantly, therapy is always voluntary and therefore stopping is always an option, or you may express a desire to continue treatment to address other concerns. Part of healing from trauma is learning how to balance understanding our limits and taking care of ourselves with stretching our limits, and I am honored to have the opportunity to help you build this skill. .

  • While trauma, anxiety, and depression disorders can co-occur with other concerns, Tethered Healing does not treat clients with self-harm (e.g. cutting, burning, scratching), moderate-severe substance abuse disorders, bipolar disorder, or borderline personality disorder. For symptoms and conditions such as these, involving significant emotion dysregulation, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) can be a superior treatment option.
